Leeches and High Water

Leech

The last weekend of my old fishing license proved to be a super weekend of fishing here in the Driftless with leeches.  I was able to catch double digits of trout on big leeches size 12 up to articulated leeches.
Going out to your stream to find the water hight and brown is not fun.  The best thing I could think of was to tie on something large and dark.

Well leeching proved to be a super effective way to fish going both up or down stream.  Fishing up stream letting the leech drift along the long the bottom led to a number of fish hook ups.  Down stream was even more effective.  Casting straight across or quartering down stream, then letting the leech just swing in the current near undercut banks and logs was super effective and seemed to produce larger trout.  Most of the trout that I was catching were hitting it hard and getting hooked on the front hook.  I guess they were hungry.

Love fishing the Driftless.

Articulated Leech

Brook Trout like the leech too.

Resting after a hard days work.
